OHS wrestlers pin Denair
Orestimba wrestlers dominated Denair last Wednesday to post a 60-24 decision in a non-league dual meet.
Seven Warriors won their match by pin – including Thomas Silva’s lightning-fast 23-second pin at 220 pounds.
Other varsity Warriors recording pins were Manuel Gonzales, 106 pounds, 2:36; Chris Renteria, 120 pounds, 2:29; Josh Moon, 126 pounds, 4:20; Frank Navarette, 152 pounds, 1:08; Dakota Johnson, 170 pounds, 1:33; and Rudy Cuevas, 285 pounds, 52 seconds.
Ricky Maldonado, wrestling at 138 pounds, battled for nearly five and one-half minutes before being pinned; Noah Winters (145), suffered a pin at 3:48; and Rafa Renteria (160) was pinned at 1:03.
Marcus Cunningham (132), George Jasso (182) and Kahua Moore (195) each won by forfeit.
In junior varsity action, Mason Eddington (138) lost by pin at 2:36 and Josh Segovia (160) was pinned in 1:20.
Eight Warriors competed in the Oakdale Tournament Saturday, where Orestimba finished 10th in the 20-team field.
Two Warriors came home with third-place medals.
Moon, wrestling at 126 pounds, won four of five matches – all by pin, two of which came in less than a minute. Caleb Wilkinson, competing at 195 pounds, also won four of five matches to place third. He had three pins, including one in just 17 seconds.
Gonzales (106), Maldonado (138), Navarette (152), Johnson (160) and Moore (170) each won one of three tournament matches. Winters (145) dropped two tournament decisions.
