OHS wrestlers fall to Cougars
Host Escalon dealt Orestimba a 54-14 TVL wrestling setback last Wednesday.
Orestimba recorded four wins on the mat.
Manuel Gonzales, wrestling at 115 pounds, won by a narrow 9-8 decision. Frank Navarette (147 pounds) posted a 7-4 win, Dakota Johnson (162) was a 7-3 victor and Caleb Wilkinson (197) won his match by pin at the 1:46 mark.
Orestimba’s Chris Renteria (122) fell by pin at 1:25, Josh Moon (128) was edged 3-2, Marcus Cunningham (134) was pinned at the 48-second mark, Elijah Moon (140) was defeated by pin at 3:29, Rafa Renteria (154) was pinned at 3:07, Joshua Segoviana (172) was defeated by pin at 22 seconds and Thomas Silva (222) was defeated 5-1.
Junior varsity
In junior varsity action, Noah Winters (140) lost by pin at 1:59, Paul Grimaldo (147) was pinned at the 52-second mark and Evan Davis (154) lost by pin at 48 seconds.
Rumble in the Jungle
Nine Warrior wrestlers competed at the Rumble in the Jungle tournament in Turlock on Saturday.
Josh Moon, competing in the varsity division at 128 pounds, lost two of three matches but recorded a 7-5 overtime victory in his second match. Frank Navarette (147) took fifth place in the tournament with pins in his third match at 3:56 and his fourth match at 3:12. Dakota Johnson (162) split his four matches of the day with two wins and two losses. Caleb Wilkenson (197) took home second place honors with three wins in four matches, including a lightning fast 20 second pin in the first round.
Junior varsity
Orestimba’s Chris Renteria (115) took fourth place after splitting his four matches in junior varsity competition and Marcus Cunningham (134) was awarded a fourth place finish after injury slowed him down after taking two of three matches. Noah Winters (140) earned a second round bye after recording a win by pin at 3:11 and took home first place honors after winning the final match by pin at 4:35. Rafa Renteria, at 154 pounds, took third place, recording a quick pin at 30 seconds in the first round and a pin at 1:03 in the third round en route to an 8-6 win in his fourth match. Joshua Segoviano (162) won two of four matches by pin to take third place.
Paul Grimaldo (140) fell by pin in both of his matches, at 2:01 and 3:11 respectively.
