Rough week for OHS Braves
Orestimba’s JV Braves were dealt a pair of tough losses at the hands of strong league opponents last week, coming up short against Modesto Christian and Riverbank.
The Braves fell out of contention early in their matchup against the Crusaders last Tuesday, dropping an 85-24 decision.
The hot-shooting Crusaders unleashed an early onslaught to take a 31-7 lead at the end of one quarter, and kept the Braves under wraps throughout.
Ruben Negrete paced the Braves with six points, Tanner Pruett and Donald Dudley recorded five apiece, Max Sciarini chipped in four points and Alex Banks and Abraham Salas were each credited with a basket.
Riverbank 43, OHS 35
Friday’s home finale for the Braves proved to be a tale of two very different halves.
Orestimba struggled early, scoring just 11 points in the first half. The Braves cut into the 23-11 halftime deficit with a solid effort in the second half, but saw their rally come up short as the Bruins held on to win.
Dudley and Negrete each hit double digits in scoring for the game, racking up 11 and 10 points respectively. Banks hit eight and Pruett, Sciarini and Salas each chipped in a basket.
Frosh Braves
Orestimba’s freshman team also found tough going last week.
The frosh Braves were held to 10 first half points against Modesto Christian, which went on to post a 50-24 victory.
Devin Perry had eight points to lead the Braves. Adrian Perez, Spencer Pruett and Michael Jimenez each put up four, Austin Farnsworth added three and Tyler Mendonca added a free throw for the Braves.
A strong second half nearly gave the Braves a victory against Riverbank but the Bruins turned away the rally in the closing minutes of the game, taking the 53-40 victory.
Three Braves hit double digit scores in the game. Perez led with 14, Pruett hit 11 and Perry chipped in 10. Mendonca recorded five to round out the Orestimba scoring.
