Obituary: Norbert Zimmerman
Former Gustine resident Norbert Anthony Zimmerman of Los Banos passed away Sept. 9.
He was 86.
Mr. Zimmerman was a native of Maryville, Mo.
He had lived in Los Banos for eight years.
Mr. Zimmerman was a police officer for 20 years, working at Lawrence Livermore Lab.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War before retiring from the military.
Mr. Zimmerman was a parishioner at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve.
Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Frances Zimmerman of Los Banos; five sons, Denzil Zimmerman, Thomas Zimmerman, Mike Zimmerman, Kenneth Zimmerman and Paul Zimmerman; a daughter, Theresa Lanza; four step-sons, Steven DeKeyrel, Robert DeKeyrel, David DeKeyrel and Aloysius “Skip” DeKeyrel; seven brothers; a sister; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor, and a son, Christopher Zimmerman.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles, with a rosary to follow.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella.
