Feature Photo: Former Mayor Silveira Honored

Newman city officials Saturday unveiled a plaque at the entry to the downtown plaza paying tribute to the late James Silveira for his visionary leadership and commitment to preservation of the community’s historic resources. A downtown plaza was among Silveira’s dreams for Newman. Silveira served as mayor from 1994-98. He passed away in 2007. On hand for the plaque unveiling Saturday were, from left, Mayor Ed Katen, Silveira’s wife Mindy Silveira-Brooks, his sister Betty Martinez, his son Neal Silveira, his sister Trish Brunette, his daughter Loni Silveira-Bray and his sister Mary Matoza.
