New owner Aracely Guzman is overseeing operations at Pizza Place in Newman.

NEWMAN - Newman’s Pizza Place recently changed ownership.

Local residents Aracely and Jesus Guzman began the process of acquiring the restaurant in December and have since assumed ownership.

Aracely Guzman, who was previously a self-described stay-at-home mom, can typically be found in the kitchen of the Fresno Street restaurant, where she oversees the day-to-day operations.

Aracely Guzman said her husband had long wanted to have his own business, and the couple jumped at the opportunity when prior owner Paul Bains offered to sell them the pizzeria.

Jesus Guzman had struck up a friendship with Bains as a delivery driver bringing product to the pizzeria.

Pizza Place opened as a takeout/delivery operation in 2017, but has since expanded to offer dine-in service.

The menu includes salads and sandwiches as well as the restaurant’s trademark pizza.

The Guzmans recently added a new jukebox to the dining room. They intend to keep the menu the same initially, but will incorporate new items in the future.

The Guzmans want Pizza Place to be a community gathering spot. The restaurant has space for parties and group events, Aracely Guzman said, and prides itself on providing a family-friendly environment with a range of entertainment options.

Pizza Place is located at 914 Fresno St. in downtown Newman.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Delivery is offered to Gustine and Crows Landing as well as Newman.
