Portuguese Fraternal Society of America
Portuguese Fraternal Society of America, Council 7 Gustine-Newman, met March 4 in OLM Parish Center I. President John Salvador conducted the meeting with 23 members in attendance.
Prior to the meeting a Portuguese potluck was shared to celebrate Portuguese Immigrant Week. Members displayed photos and memorabilia from their ancestors, and shared stories about their family’s journey to America. Some dressed in traditional Portuguese attire.
A get-well card was sent to Steve Day. A sympathy card was sent to the family of Duane and Shirley Oliveira.
Manuel Azevedo won the 50-50 drawing.
The council will not meet April 1 due to the COVID-19 crisis. Meetings are currently expected to resume May 6 with a Mother’s Day potluck hosted by all Council 7 male members in Parish Center I. That potluck begins at 5:30 p.m. The finance committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. to audit council books.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joseph G. Rose Post 7635, April meeting has been canceled. President Judy Quinn will be advising members of information being issued by the state VFW Auxiliary Department on a regular basis.
