Newman Woman’s Club

The Newman Woman’s Club will hold a potluck luncheon and meeting Monday, Oct. 7, at the L.J. Newman Memorial Center.

Social time begins at noon. The potluck luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m., followed by the meeting at 1.

Members are asked to bring their favorite potluck dish. Desserts will be provided by the committee of Debbie Allen and Regina Martin.

Members are also asked to bring their Halloween candy for the trunk-or-treat event in downtown Newman, as well as any recycled plastic or cans they have gathered for the club.

Native Sons of the Golden West

Native Sons of the Golden West, John C. Fremont Parlor 293, will hold a dinner meeting Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Gustine.

Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m., with Bingo to follow. Members wishing to play cards or socialize are invited to arrive at 5.

A Grand Parlor guest may be in attendance.

Members are encouraged to invite guests.

Orestimba 50-Plus Club

The Orestimba 50-Plus Club met Sept. 20 in the L.J. Newman Memorial Center.

President Loveada Fresquez conducted the meeting.

Veterans in the club led the pledge of allegiance.

A barbecue was enjoyed by all.

Guests included Clint Borba, Emily Blackwell, Maggie Loriaux, Dianne Milbaurer, Barbara Proell, Celina Ross, James Runnells and Terri Winters.

The minutes and treasurer’s report were read and approved.

The casino trip to Black Oak on Sept. 18 was enjoyed by all attending. Future casino trips will be announced soon.

The next meeting is Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at the L.J. Newman Memorial Center.

The kitchen crew for September and October includes Rosa Goodin, Marlene Rodriguez, Jade Freitas, Nadine Partridge and Helen Cabral as substitute. Crew members are reminded to arrive by 11:30 a.m.

The club’s Christmas dinner is scheduled for Dec. 6, and will feature a meal catered by “In Good Taste.” Members will be decorating their own tables in any design they choose.

American Legion Auxiliary

American Legion, Manuel M. Lopes Post 240, Auxiliary, will meet Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Green Acres Mobile Home Park clubhouse.
