Portuguese Fraternal Society of America

Members of the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America, Council 7 Gustine-Newman, celebrated Portuguese Immigrant Week recently. Members, some of whom wore traditional Portuguese attire, displayed the family artifacts of their ancestors and shared stories of their families’ pilgrimage to America.

The Newman Garden Club has selected the Gustine home of Bryan and Dea McWilliams as its Garden of the Month for March. The McWilliams home is located at 1269 Brenda Dr.

The Gustine Historical Society held its annual meeting Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Perry’s More Than Pizza. Khaled Bloom, descendant of a pioneer family in the Gustine area, was the featured speaker. He spoke on land acquisition by settlers in the Gustine area from 1861-75.
