The Gustine Seniors paid tribute to their honorary members (those 90 and older) at a luncheon held Friday, May 24. Portuguese Fraternal Society of America

PFSA, Council 7 Gustine-Newman, met May 1 in OLM Parish Center I.

Vice President Lena Inacio conducted the meeting.

Members with May birthdays include Steve Day, Urbin Ferreira, Margaret Martinho, Perley Spaulding, Dora Isola and Emily Alamo.

Steve and Aurora Day are celebrating a May anniversary.

A get-well card was sent to Steve Day.

Sympathy cards were sent to the families of Vic Vescere and Mary Lopes.

Betty Mello won the drawing prize.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. in OLM Parish Center I.

An audit of the council books will be held at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be a celebration of Father’s Day, with refreshments provided by the women PFSA members.

Native Sons of the Golden West

Native Sons of the Golden West, John C. Fremont Parlor 293, will host a dinner meeting Thursday, June 6, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Gustine. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. with Bingo to follow.

Members wishing to play cards or visit are welcome to arrive at 5.

The meeting will include a brief report of events at the Visalia Grand Parlor.

All members are encouraged to invite guests.

Gustine Seniors

The Gustine Seniors met Friday, May 24, with 61 members present.

A sandwich and potluck luncheon was held to honor members 90 and over.

Honorary members include Ken Ancalade, J.R. Azevedo, Dorothy Azevedo, Eleanor Camara, Milt Coppi, Eva Goman, Irene Gomes, Mary Gonzales, Eleanor Greer, Fred Lema, Marylou Lillemoen, Jo Krueger, Mary Machado, Jorge Medeiros, Lorraine Mendonca, Gladys Nightengale, Ben Perry, Frank Scesa, Ethel Seela and Hazel Silva.

Those in attendance were presented with corsages or boutonnieres and had their photo taken.

New member Edward Vasquez was welcomed.

A few seats are still available to a June 26 trip to Black Oak Casino.

Millie Bizzini won the 50/50 prize. Two tickets for the upcoming Lions Club chicken dinner were also drawn for. They were donated by Dorothy Azevedo and Don Bruck.

The Gustine Seniors will meet Friday, June 14, at the Al Goman Center to celebrate Father’s Day. Refreshments will be provided by Cathy Mendonca.
