NEWMAN - A community vigil will be held tonight (Thursday, Dec. 26) in memory of Newman Police Cpl. Ronil Singh.

The event falls on the first anniversary of Singh’s death. The popular officer was killed during a traffic stop of a suspected drunken driver while working Christmas night.

The candlelight vigil begins at 6 p.m. in Newman’s downtown plaza, with a program that includes speakers and a balloon release.

A vigil walk will follow to the intersection of Merced Street and Eucalyptus Avenue where Singh was killed. A flagpole recently erected at that location in his memory will be dedicated this evening.
