Students from the Gustine and Newman-Crows Landing unified school districts were well-represented in the most recent editions of the Healthy Choices for Our West Side art and essay contests.
The poster artwork of several GUSD and NCLUSD students was selected to adorn the 2021 Healthy Choices calendar.
Gustine Elementary students Melanie Padilla Madrigal (first grade), Daniel Vazquez (fourth grade) and Dulce Miranda (fourth grade), and Gustine Middle School pupils Moises Vazquez (eighth grade) and Juan Verduzco (eighth grade) were among the award winners in the art contest.
The artwork of two Bonita School first-grade students, Andie Freeberg and Vivianna Espinoza, was also selected for the calendar.
Yolo Middle School seventh-grade student Ivanna Castaneda placed third in the Healthy Choices essay contest.
The Healthy Choices for Our West Side initiative promotes positive, healthy lifestyle choices. It operates under the auspices of the West Side Healthcare Advisory Task Force, a coalition of schools, cities, local governments and health care providers formed to increase access to health care services for residents of Newman, Gustine, Patterson and surrounding communities.
