Gustine resident Lorraine Mendonca celebrated her 100th birthday Friday and it included a well-attended party with her friends, sweet treats and multiple games of Bingo to celebrate
Through the years Mendonca had become very familiar in Gustine, where she was born and raised.
“I love this community so much, and I’ve seen so many changes happen throughout the years and it always amazes me,” Mendonca said.
Mendonca graduated from Gustine Union High School in 1939 before entering in the work force as a payroll associate for 40 years. She explained that doing this job really put no stress on her and kept her going until retirement.
As she looked back on her life and how everything went she says, “The secret to life is to have no stress at all, because for me I was never married and had no kids so I feel like I discovered the antidote for a longer life.”
On her days where she’s not celebrating her birthday, she is an avid reader of books, especially in the romance category, Mendonca said.
She wants to tell the City of Gustine thank you for being so good to her over the time she has been in the community, and to keep doing what they are doing.
