When hundreds of Orestimba High alumni gathered in 2015 for a multi-year reunion and homecoming celebration, it was considered a resounding success and the organizers eagerly started planning the next one for 2020. But all those big plans came to a screeching halt with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, organizers are planning for another multi class reunion in October and though it will be smaller in scale, organizers promise that it will be big on fun and a run-up for an even bigger event in 2022.
“This year’s event won’t be as big as what we did in 2015, but we’re thinking of it as a ‘get in the mood’ event for the big one we’re planning in 2022,” said organizer co-chair Jim Jasper.
This year the reunion is open to Orestimba alumni from the class of 1980 and beyond.
The reunion will kick-off with attendees gathering for the Orestimba versus Gustine football game on Oct. 29. Alumni will have a special section at the game to cheer on their team. After the game, alumni will gather at the Westside Theatre to visit and socialize. There will be snacks provided and a no-host bar.
On Oct. 30, organizers have planned for a dinner at The Kitchen at the Mission hotel in Santa Nella. The dinner will include a no-host cocktail hour and an after dinner social. The cost is $35 per person. The Mission also will be offering a block of rooms at a special rate for alumni.
The reunion this year will coincide with the 75th meeting between the Gustine High and Orestimba High football teams and bragging rights are at stake. Both team have 31 wins to their names and there were two ties.
The multi-class reunions have become a tradition held every five years dating back to the mid-1980s, bringing alumni from across the nation back to their home town for a weekend of festivities. But things got thrown off last year because of the pandemic.
Organizers are looking to reach as many classmates as they can through email and social media. Reservations for the reunion have to be made by Oct. 14.
