The Gustine Chamber of Commerce welcomed RJ’s Homestyle Eatery to the local business community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday. Owners Jerry and Renita Culp cut the traditional ribbon.

A new restaurant serving up homestyle fare recently opened its doors for business in Gustine.

The restaurant, “RJ’s Homestyle Eatery,” is under the ownership of local couple Renita and Jerry Culp. Located at 403 Third Ave., the eatery serves up a variety of menu selections based on their own homemade recipes flavored with herbs and seasonings that will keep patrons coming back for more.

Jerry Culp is a cook and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in business and the restaurant scene. Renita Culp has a degree in accounting and will handle the behind-the-scenes duties to make their dream run smoothly.

In 2008 the husband-and-wife team opened their first enterprise in Manteca, where they offered the same style of restaurant but the eatery fell victim to the economic downturn.

They decided relocate in Gustine in 2016 and reopen but in a smaller way with a food truck.

“It was something we wanted to do for years,” Jerry Culp said of the food truck purchase.

“We decided to locate in Gustine because we felt like it was a good location, and over our years here we fell in love with the community,” Renita Culp told Mattos Newspaper.

Over time, they returned to the brick-and-mortar restaurant trade.

The Culps mentioned that with years of patience and time they were able to purchase a vacant restaurant that they were able to renovate to create the homestyle atmosphere.

Now, they are serving up a full range of menu options.

On the menu they provide various options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner such as breakfast burritos, steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, hamburgers, chicken wings, a number of steak options, meatloaf, fish and chips and much more mouth-watering food.

Along with those options they will provide coffee and donuts for their early risers and dessert selections.

Customers can sign up to receive updates straight to their phone about new menu items, specials and other announcements.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, the Culps can offer only takeout at the moment. They may add delivery in the future, they shared

They and their staff adhere to a rigorous sanitation protocol, they said, and offer a takeout window as well as inside ordering.

They encourage customers to order online at:

“We really just want to provide our customers with the best way of purchasing our food and feel safe with (any) of the options,” mentioned Jerry Culp.

The restaurant provides catering for customers within a 10-mile radius.
