Newman 4-H

Newman 4-H Club members received a number of awards at the California 4-H Field Day recently. Photography award winners included, from left, Cailin Casey, Olivia Casey, Sophia Hayes and Daniel Gomes Jr. Not pictured is Cheyanne Verissimo. 

The Newman 4-H Club was well represented at the California 4-H State Field Day held at UC Davis.

Members Isabell Hayes, Cailin Casey, and Olivia Casey participated in the state horticulture contest, plant and tree identification and various judging contests, placing in the top 25 percent of participants in their respective divisions. They also participated in welding and plasma cutting activities.

In the state photography contest senior division, Daniel Gomes Jr. was awarded one blue and one gold award. Intermediate exhibitor Sophia Hayes received two gold awards, while Cailin Casey earned one gold award. Junior division exhibitor Olivia Casey received one gold and one blue award, while Cheyanne Verissimo received two blue awards.

In the public speaking contest, Olivia Casey received a gold medal for her presentation, “Wear That Hat with Pride” while Cailin Casey received a blue for “ The Spotted Beauty.”
