The city of Gustine is celebrating a long-awaited airport drainage improvement project which is nearing completion. Officials said the project will alleviate the occasional flooding which has encroached on the airport taxi-way. In addition to Federal Aviation Administration funding, the project required $37,000 in matching money. The city used regional funds from Measure V, a half-cent transportation sales tax approved by Merced County voters in November 2016, for the local match. On hand to commemorate the occasion were, from left, Councilman Derek Alexander, Merced County Association of Governments Public Affairs Manager Mary-Michal Rawling, Mayor Pat Nagy, Airport Manager Jami Westervelt, Mayor Pro Tem Joe Oliveira and civil engineer Nick Fontaine, representing Gouveia Engineering. Final completion of the project is scheduled for early December.
