A three-vehicle, major injury accident involving two passenger vehicles and a big rig occurred Monday afternoon on Highway 33 south of Crows Landing. The California Highway Patrol reported that the investigation indicates the collision occurred when Jose Fuentes Coronado, 37, of Newman, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry northbound on Highway 33, attempted to pass a vehicle with insufficient clearance and collided with an oncoming big rig driven by Kenny Miramontes, 39, of Los Banos. The Toyota then collided with a 2013 Kia Optima driven by Maria Contreras, 47, of Patterson, according to the CHP. The CHP reported that Fuentes Coronado, who was transported by air ambulance, and a passenger in the Toyota, identified as Rodney Coronado, 37, of Newman, sustained major injuries. Contreras was transported with minor injuries, the CHP stated. Miramontes was not injured in the accident, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m.
