Vandalism incidents

Newman police said two vandalism incidents were recently reported.

Police said a pickup truck in the 1300 block of S Street was egged in an incident reported Aug. 18. No damage was listed.

A break box to a business in the 900 block of Fresno Street was damaged in an incident reported Aug. 21. The damage was estimated at $100.


The following were among arrests reported by Newman police from Aug. 17-23. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Elena Valencia Mejia, 50, of Newman, was arrested Aug. 17 on misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving on a license suspended for DUI.

A 30-year-old Newman male was arrested Aug. 21 on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Sergio Madrigal, 44, of Newman, was arrested Aug. 22 on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Activity report

Newman police received 90 calls for service, reported 42 officer-initiated incidents, handled 16 cases, made five arrests, wrote six traffic citations and issued one parking ticket from Aug. 17-23, according to the department’s activity report.


Misdemeanor arrest

Gustine police said Mario Garcia, 39, of Gustine, was arrested Aug. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license. He was cited and released.

Activity report

Gustine police received 67 calls for service, reported 73 officer-initiated incidents, handled 13 cases, made three arrests and wrote one traffic ticket from Aug. 18-24, according to the department’s activity report.

Weekly arrest and incident reports are provided by the Newman and Gustine police departments. Charges may have been dropped as of press time. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
