Multiple charges

Police said a Newman man arrested after being found inside a closed downtown business by the owners on Sept. 13 faces multiple charges.

Authorities said Gilbert V. Grijalva, 54, of Newman, fled on foot after being found inside the Powers Production dance studio in the 1400 block of Main Street but was subsequently taken into custody.

Police said miscellaneous items taken from the studio were recovered.

Police said Grijalva was arrested on felony charges of burglary, burglary during a state of emergency and parole violation, as well as a misdemeanor charge of possession of burglary tools.

Burglary arrest

A 17-year-old Newman male was arrested Sept. 7 on felony charges of burglary and burglary during a state of emergency, police said.

According to police reports, officers responding to a report of an alarm sounding and male yelling at a residence in the 1300 block of Mariposa found an open door and damaged screen door but no one inside. As officers were speaking with the reporting party the juvenile was noticed standing nearby and contacted. Police said the teen advised that he was “high” and had entered the residence. It was unknown if anything was taken from the residence. Damage to the doors was estimated at $200.

Vehicle theft

Police said a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen Sept. 13 from the downtown Newman plaza. The vehicle was recovered the following day at Fresno and P streets. It was intact other than a missing license plate.

Vehicle vandalism, arrest

Authorities said a vehicle in the 1000 block of T Street was damaged in a vandalism incident reported Sept. 12. The windshield and driver side door frame of the vehicle were damaged, according to the police report. Police said Tyler R. Mendonca, 23, of Newman, was arrested on a misdemeanor vandalism charge stemming from that incident.

Arrest report

The following were among additional arrests reported by Newman police from Sept. 7-13. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Scott W. McManamon, 25, of Tarzana, was arrested Sept. 8 on misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as a felony warrant out of Los Angeles County.

A 24-year-old Patterson male was arrested Sept. 8 on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Stephen A. Metcalf, 34, of Modesto, was arrested Sept. 9 on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

Esequiel Lopez Gomez, 78, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 11 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Anthony Gonzalez, 21, of Newman, was arrested Sept. 11 on a misdemeanor charge of battery.

A 17-year-old Newman male was arrested Sept. 12 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Roy D. Vasquez, 21, of Newman, was arrested Sept. 12 on a misdemeanor charge of driving wtihout a license.

Activity report

Newman police received 90 calls for service, reported 33 officer-initiated incidents, handled 26 cases, made 11 arrests, wrote six traffic citations and issued six parking tickets from Sept. 7-13, according to the department’s activity report.

GUSTINE POLICE

Vandalism

Gustine police said two windows were broken in the Gustine Adult School building in an incident reported Sept. 12. The damage was estimated at $600.

Arrests

The following were among arrests reported by Gustine police from Sept. 8-14. The arrest report includes incidents in which an individual was released on citation as well as cases in which a suspect was booked.

Michael Tavares, 34, of Modesto, was arrested Sept. 8 on a misdemeanor charge of violating a court order and a felony warrant.

Bartolome Chavez, 38, of Madera, was arrested Sept. 9 on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Karla K. Delgado Castro, 41, of Los Banos, was arrested Sept. 10 on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Zachary J. Silva, 32, of Kings City, was arrested Sept. 13 on misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and being a restricted driver using a vehicle without an interlock device.

Elio Banuelos, 31, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 13 on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Abel Salinas, 38, of Los Banos was arrested Sept. 13 on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Lisette Salinas, 33, of Gustine, was arrested Sept. 13 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Activity report

Gustine police received 57 calls for service, reported 105 officer-initiated incidents, handled 16 cases, made nine arrests and wrote three traffic tickets from Sept. 8-14, according to the department’s activity report.
