The Newman Rotary Club recently honored reigning Miss Newman Doreen Dyt.

Dyt was named Miss Newman at the 2019 pageant, and in the absence of a pageant this year due to COVID-19 will continue to represent the community in that role through 2020-21.

Dyt, the daughter of Rich and Jacquie Dyt, is a recent Orestimba High graduate. She was a co-valedictorian for the OHS Class of 2020.

Dyt, who will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, received more than $16,500 in scholarships, including $3,400 from TOSCA.

In addition to being a top student, Dyt was a four-year starter on the Orestimba volleyball team and earned a number of team and all-league honors.

Dyt has also found community service and leadership skills through her involvement in Newman 4-H and Newman FFA. She is an accomplished public speaker who placed fourth in the state FFA prepared speaking contest one year.

Dyt held FFA section office as a junior and a variety of chapter offices, including president during her senior year.

She is also actively involved on her family dairy.
