A California Highway Patrol officer photographs one of the vehicles involved in a fatal crash last Wednesday afternoon, April 22, at Highway 33 and Sullivan Road at the south edge of Gustine.

GUSTINE - A 25-year-old San Jose man was killed Wednesday afternoon, April 22 in a two-vehicle accident at the south edge of Gustine, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Authorities identified the deceased as Jesus Hernandez.

According to the CHP, Hernandez was a passenger in a 1996 Acura being driven northbound on Highway 33 by Lisa K. Chavez, 23, of San Jose.

The CHP said Chavez attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 140, but pulled into the path of a southbound 2017 Nissan driven by Luis Rosas Cruz, 25, of Santa Nella, causing the Nissan to collide with the right-hand side of the Acura.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Chavez was transported to Los Banos Memorial Hospital with complaint of pain, according to the CHP.

The CHP said Cruz sustained minor injuries and refused medical aid at the scene.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m.
