The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting outside a Santa Nella market on Friday that killed a teenager.
The shooting was reported around 7:30 p.m. Friday night in the 13000 block of Highway 33, in an area near Joe’s Village Market and the mobile home park.
The Merced County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Alan Cabrales, 16.
Deputies responded to the scene and located the 16-year-old boy with at least one gunshot wound. He was rushed to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The sheriff’s office has not released any other details about the homicide, including possible motive or a suspect description.
Cabrales lived in Santa Nella and attended Valley Community School in Merced.
Those close to Cabrales and his family are hosting some events to help with the funeral expenses. They had a food sale over the weekend and Ana C. Godinez is holding a raffle of new UGGS, with tickets running $25 each. Her raffle can be found on her public Facebook page under her name.
