Free meals are now available to children through local schools regardless of whether they are enrolled as students.
Under USDA waivers announced earlier this week, the Gustine and Newman-Crows Landing unified school districts are able to resume the free meal program serving all children ages 1-18.
Each district is distributing breakfast, lunch and supper meals each weekday at various sites.
In the Newman-Crows Landing district, lunches may be picked up from 11 a.m. to noon at Von Renner, Hunt, Bonita, Barrington and Yolo. Delivery of meals is available to Diablo Grande residents. To arrange for a Diablo Grande meal delivery, call 862-2158.
In the Gustine district, curbside pickup is available at Gustine Elementary, Gustine High and the South Avenue apartments. Meals are also being distributed at Pioneer Park, Henry Miller Park, Borrelli Park (Via Del Pettoruto and Via Palermo), the Santa Nella Village Market parking lot and on Los Flores Drive in Santa Nella. Look for the yellow school bus at those locations. Distribution hours are 1-2:30 p.m. weekdays in the Gustine district.
Family food boxes
The distribution of USDA family food boxes will also resume in September, organizers announced.
Family food boxes may be picked up at any Newman-Crows Landing meal distribution site from 11 a.m. to noon on Fridays starting Sept. 4.
Family food box distribution will resume in Gustine Tuesday, Sept. 8. Distribution begins at 10 a.m. in front of Gustine Elementary School. Subsequent Gustine distributions will be on Mondays.
The Newman distribution is through the school district. A community group chaired by Zachery Ramos is organizing the Gustine distribution.
Any community member may pick up a family food box free of charge, while supplies last.
