The Gustine High Drama Club production of the melodrama “Sawmill Daze,” or “Will Sugar Pine?” opens tonight (Thursday) on the GHS auditorium stage.
The classic melodrama format invites the audience to boo the villain and cheer the heroes as the story line unfolds.
The melodrama was written for the school’s drama club in 1991 by Larry Fayler and John Burgess. The production is dedicated in memory of Fayler, according to Burgess, who directs the show.
Student thespians have presented the melodrama several times over the years, he noted, each with modifications to fit the cast.
