This week's student spotlight shines on Monique Medina of Orestimba High School.
Medina, the daughter of Maria and George Medina, was born and raised in Newman and is currently a junior.
"I love it here," Medina told Mattos Newspapers of her hometown. "It's a great place to grow up."
Along with keeping an above average GPA, Medina is highly involved with the FFA.
"Last year we planted a pumpkin patch," said Medina. "It was so much fun and we made a lot of money for the FFA."
Medina has also been a cheerleader since the age of four but took her junior year off of cheer to focus on school.
She is currently a student council officer and a member of interact with hopes of one day becoming a veterinarian.
"I hope to get accepted to Cal Poly or UC Davis" Medina told Mattos Newspapers. "I want to get a state degree in FFA and be able to take care of animals."
