OLM Celebration angels, choir
Rehearsals will begin Aug. 12 for youth interested in participating in the upcoming Our Lady of Miracles Celebration novenas as angels or choir children.
Practices will be held Aug. 12, 14, 19, 21 and 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles.

Gustine recreation programs
The city of Gustine is sponsoring a number of upcoming programs.
Final sessions of water zumba begin Aug. 14 and continue through Sept. 9. Water zumba sessions meet Mondays and Wednesdays. Morning (10-11 a.m.) and evening (6:30-7:30 p.m.) sessions are offered.
Fee is $35 for the eight-session course. Drop-ins are welcome if space available. Drop-in fee is $6.
Yoga sessions begin each month, with sessions meeting at 5:30p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays on the second floor of the Odd Fellows Building.
Chair yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. at the Al Goman Community Center. Fee is $35 for full session, $25 for half session and $6 for one-session drop-ins.
A certified CPR and first aid course will beheld Tuesday, Aug. 13, and Thursday, Aug. 15, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Attendance at both nights is required for certification.
Fee is $60 for both classes. Sessions will meet in the community room next to the Gustine library.

Free rides for commuters
The Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT) commuter program is offering free rides between stops in Turlock and Patterson and the Dublin BART station through the month of August.
The service runs weekdays. The bus picks up riders at the Patterson Walmart at 4:55 a.m., arriving in Dublin at 6:10 a.m. The return trip leaves Dublin at 4:45 and arrives in Patterson at 6:15 p.m.

The Newman branch library will offer a variety of activities through the month of August.
Wee move & play sessions will be held at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday through the month.
LEGO days are planned for Thursdays, Aug. 8 and 22. Each begins at 3:30 p.m.
Summer fun at the library continues with a water party from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.
An “unwind and unplug” week will be held Aug. 13-16, offering giant games, puzzles and other relaxing activities.
A melted crayon art craft for adults will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
Family “Toy Story” time is planned for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20.
A “dino dig” activity at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, offers the opportunity for participants to excavate an area and identify their own fossils.

Back to school night
Gustine Elementary school will be hosting a back to school event Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 4-6 p.m.
Parents and students are encouraged to attend to meet staff, visit classrooms, and learn what is new for the school year before classes start on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Free ice cream will be served.
Child safety day in Patterson
A free child safety day event conducted by the non-profit KlaasKids Foundation will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in downtown Patterson’s North and South parks.
Digital fingerprinting and photographs will be offered, and will be included in a packet that also includes pro-active child safety tips, a 12-point plan on what to do if your child disappears and a DNA collection kit.
The KlaasKids Foundation was created following the 1993 kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas. The foundation’s programs are designed to promote awareness and education for parents and children in an effort to protect children against violence.
Marc Klaas, Polly’s father, will attend and participate in the Patterson event.
