Fall Festival meeting
Newman’s Fall Festival will celebrate its 50th year over Labor Day weekend 2020.
The first planning meeting for the big weekend will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m. in the community meeting room (behind the Newman Police Department, entrance off Kern Street).
All community members interested in volunteering to help with the festival are asked to attend.
Census job opportunities
The Newman branch library will host a 2020 U.S. Census jobs recruiting event Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for Feb. 1.
Information will be available on the types of Census jobs available, the application process and hiring time lines.
In Stanislaus County, the pay rate for Census workers is $18 an hour.

OLM photo exhibit
The Gustine Museum is showcasing an exhibit of 60 or more historic photos from the extensive display featured at the 100th year celebration of the OLM parish.
The community is invited to view the photos.
The museum is open Thursdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.
Orestimba High will celebrate its winter homecoming with a fairy tale theme next week.
The festivities will include themed dress days including Sleeping Beauty Tuesday, Mad Hatter Wednesday, Hansel & Gretel Thursday and Warrior Day Friday.
Orestimba hosts Denair Friday evening in the homecoming game.
A coronation dance will be held Saturday evening, Jan. 25, in the school multi-use room.
Newman branch library
The Newman branch library will host a variety of special programs and activities during January.
Story times are offered Wednesdays at 10 a.m., followed by wee move & play sessions at 10:30 a.m.
A campfire snack activity will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 3:30 p.m. Participants will create a campfire snack out of cookies, pretzels, frosting and jelly beans.
LEGO day is offered Thursday, Jan. 23, at 3:30 p.m. Children under 4 are welcome but must be under adult supervision.
A teen “Jeopardy” game session will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. Pizza will be served while supplies last.

Orestimba ‘Tom Tom’ editions available
The Newman Museum has an abundance of Orestimba High “Tom Tom” yearbooks which have been donated over the years.
The Newman Historical Society is offering to distribute extra yearbooks not needed in the museum to OHS class members at no charge.
Most of the Tom Tom’s are from the graduating classes of the 1950s through the 1980s.
Those interested in receiving a yearbook are asked to send a note with their name, phone number and requested Tom Tom year to: Newman Historical Society, P.O. Box 123, Newman 95360.
