Gustine Halloween contests

The city of Gustine is hosting Halloween-themed photo contests.

Categories include best individual costume (with age divisions ranging from infant to adult), best family or group, best dressed animal/pet, best decorated car and best decorated home/business with a fall or haunted theme.

Gustine residents may enter by posting their photos online on Facebook or Instgram using #GUSTINEHALLOWEEN2020. The deadline for entry is Oct. 31.

Free flu vaccinations

The Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District will host a Stanislaus County Public Health flu vaccination clinic today (Thursday, Oct. 15). Flu shots for all ages will be offered free of charge from 1-4 p.m. at Yolo Middle School. A drive-through format will be utilized.

Plant sale

Orestimba Presbyterian Church in Newman will host a plant sale Saturday, Oct. 24.

The outdoor sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Available plants include many varieties of succulents, geraniums and house plants.

Benefit dinner

The Gustine Fourth of July Committee will host a takeout linguica sandwich dinner Friday, Oct. 23, as a fund-raiser for the 2021 fireworks show.

Meals will be served from 4-7 p.m. at the Al Goman Community Center.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online through the city of Gustine website, at Ford’s Farm Supply or by calling 854-6471.

Newman decorating contests

The city of Newman is sponsoring two Halloween-themed contests.

A costume photo contest will be judged Thursday, Oct. 29. Age categories are 1-5; 6-12; and 13-18. Photo entries must be submitted no later than Oct. 26 to amendoza@cityofnewman.com.

A yard decorating contest is also being held. Registration closes Oct. 16; a winner will be announced on Oct. 30. Judging criteria include unique design and use of lights and decorations, display and placement of decorations, and overall presentation. To register, email amendoza@cityofnewman.com.

Pumpkin contest

The Gustine Rotary Club is sponsoring a pumpkin carving and painting competition. Contestants are asked to take a photo with their pumpkin (include your age to be placed in the proper age group) and post the photo to the Gustine Rotary Facebook page no later than Oct. 27.

Gustine sets recycling, E-WASTE EVENT

The city of Gustine will host a free e-waste and recycling collection Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Al Goman Community Center. Televisions, computers and computer accessories and other small electronic devices are accepted.

Metal items, plastic containers and clothing are also accepted at the recycling event.

Those participating are asked to separate items by material type and device type prior to attending the event.

Face masks are required if exiting the vehicles.

Gustine residency is not required to participate.
