Burglary arrest

Gustine police said an ongoing investigation led to the arrest of a local man on burglary charges Monday night.

Authorities said Joseph A. Reis Jr., 24, of Gustine was taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m.

According to Sgt. Vince Inaudi, witnesses had seen Reis jump the fence of a residence late Monday afternoon and later saw him leave the property. Inaudi said the witnesses gave chase, but were unable to catch Reis.

During the course of that chase, Inaudi said, the suspect dropped coins that had been taken from the home.

The witnesses subsequently contacted authorities, and the resulting investigation led to the arrest.

Inaudi said Tuesday that Reis faces charges in two residential burglaries and one commercial burglary.

Inaudi said the arrest followed an ongoing investigation into a series of residential burglaries in which jewelry and coins were taken.

He said police are continuing their investigation to determine if Reis will face charges in additional cases.
