Newman K-9 units are on patrol

A little bit about a lot of things:

• Drum roll, please.....Newman Police Department’s K-9 units are on the beat, after passing a rigorous certification test recently.

Getting two dogs patrol-ready proved to be no small task, as the department encountered and overcame a series of setbacks....the most difficult of which was having to return each of the two dogs originally purchased for the K-9 program.

Economy poses a hurdle for ballot measures

A little bit about a lot of things:

• The economy may be in the tank, but that isn’t stopping a number of local agencies from asking voters to tax themselves when November rolls around.

Stanislaus County voters are expected to decide the fate of a half-cent sales tax measure for new roads and other transportation improvements, Gustine voters will act on a proposed three-quarter cent sales tax measure earmarked for public safety and those in the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District will be asked to okay a $25 million school bond measure.

McWilliams, Bussard bidding farewell to local high schools

Change is in store for Orestimba High School and Gustine High School in the coming year, as each says farewell to staff members who have contributed greatly to their respective campuses.

Former OHS vice principal and long-time staff member Kerry McWilliams has submitted his letter of resignation and will be moving on to an administrative position at Creekside Middle School in Patterson.
