To the editor:

First let me say that I am speaking only for myself and not the GUSTO board.

I am a charter member and have been treasurer for 10 years. The board has not met regarding this problem, but I suspect it will come up soon enough.

It was just sickening to hear of the “prank” at the high school.

My thoughts went to “What!? Forty or so kids destroying so many parts of the campus! That can’t be.”

You see, the buzz for many months before our scholarship ceremony was that this senior class was remarkable. I believed it and felt the students would be a great investment for our organization for sure. It seemed that way, but I can only hope that none of our recipients were involved (in the vandalism).

A bit of comfort came today when I received a thank-you card from a scholarship recipient that left me with a less sick feeling.

She wrote, “I am proud to say that I had absolutely no part in the awful senior prank.”

Thank goodness. I applaud her honesty and feel sorry she even had to defend herself as part of that “remarkable” senior class.

I would love it if any others who weren’t involved would do the same – defend yourselves.

Marie Rosemire, Gustine
