To the editor:

If you attended either or both of the graduations in Orestimba’s Warrior Stadium this year, you were able to hear our new sound system for the first time.

Just one year ago, the old sound system was in such bad shape that many people complained they could not hear those delivering speeches throughout the ceremony.

The system had served the community well for about 20 years, thanks to the huge number of volunteers who made this stadium a reality.

Now we have a new system, and I want to especially thank Robert Fantazia for his relentless pursuit of bringing this project to reality. Also, I want to thank the Orestimba Athletic Boosters Club and Mario Martins for their generous contributions as well as the school district.

While the new sound system is wonderful, it will take some fine-tuning before we are comfortable with its use. People were able to hear very well in the grandstands, but some of us who gave speeches had a difficult time getting used to hearing our own voices come back at us through the powerful speakers as we tried speaking with a natural sounding voice.

This was especially difficult for those of us who naturally speak with a loud voice.

This dynamic made some of us want to speak much slower than usual and resulted in a choppy sort of delivery.

We think we have a solution for next year, but after hearing some of the questions about this from the community an explanation seemed necessary.

Thank you for your continued support of Warrior Stadium and the need to update its infrastructure so it will continue to be a first-class venue for many years to come.

Rick Fauss

Superintendent, Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District
