Have you ever been to a party, stood in the corner of the room and perused all the self-flattering chatter going on by those with big heads? It always amuses me that in every group there is usually a handful of guests with big heads. Well our 10-day fair is no different. There will most definitely be big heads amongst the crowd—one head is 7’x6’ in size!
If you’ve not already heard, Jurassic Journey will make its California debut at the Stanislaus County Fair. The educational adventure has been made possible by the generosity of our friends from Sky Trek Aviation. Under the artistic direction of Turlock’s Clayton and Elaine Everett we’ve transformed an 8,000 square foot cement slab into the land of the dinosaurs. The amazing exhibit is as close to “Mickey and Minnie” quality that you’ll find anywhere north of Anaheim.
Jurassic Journey features 40 life-size dinosaur and fossil replicas, so you can see why our fair is expecting so many big heads in its midst. The T-Rex skull is literally 7’ wide. The Stegosaurus is 12’ tall and 22’ long and the Burning Tree Mastodon is 21’x12’.
The dinosaurs pulled into town on Sunday, all the way from Ohio, after a short stint at a festival in Oregon. In fact, if you have traveled on Highway 99 during the past two days you have probably noticed the constant flow of concession stands, carnival rides and attractions making their way to the fairgrounds as well.
Country superstar Clay Walker’s bus will pull in on Friday, as he is our opening night concert. You’ll definitely want to be here for Clay’s concert—all of our celebrity concerts are included with admission. The complete concert schedule is on our website at www.stancofair.com.
It’s buzzing around here and we have so much to be proud of at this year’s Stanislaus County Fair. You might just say that we’ve got a big head, because we strongly believe that a ticket to our fair is jam-packed with more value than you’ll find anywhere in this part of the state.
I look forward to seeing you this Friday through Sunday, Aug. 3.
Tony Leo is chief executive officer of the Stanislaus County Fair. He has worked in the fair industry for nearly 25 years. This is his eleventh Stanislaus County Fair.
