Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, for Olympia Yvonne Gomes of Stockton, who passed away July 26 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton.

She was 81.

Mrs. Gomes was a native of Gustine. She lived in Stockton for three years, and previously resided in Los Banos and Linden.

She was a bookkeeper for 24 years and was last employed at JC Penney.

She was a member of the women’s auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joseph G. Rose Post 7635 of Gustine and a volunteer at the  Delta Blood Bank. She enjoyed cooking, reading, music, gardening, bowling and traveling.

Mrs. Gomes is survived by two sons, David Gomes of Turlock and Daniel Gomes of Stockton; a daughter, Ann O’Connell of Stockton; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon P. Gomes; a brother, William T. King; and two sisters, Beatrice Lopes and Annamae O’Connor.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., followed by a combined rosary/funeral mass Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church in Gustine. Burial will follow in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella.

Hillview Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
