With the beginning of the school year comes daily practices to prepare for the start of the new season. The Orestimba High School volleyball team opened practices on Monday, looking to continue their success from last season.

Orestimba finished second in the Western Athletic Conference last year, and advanced into the second round of the Section playoffs.

Coach John Labno will again take the helm for the Lady Warriors through the season.

“We lost four seniors this year, but I think that we will be able to fill the positions that they left with the girls that we have coming out,” Labno mentioned.

“The team dynamic is going to change a little bit because of the players we lost but I think that we have more than enough talent in the players who are still here to be successful,” Labno continued. “We’ve just started practicing so I really don’t know who will step up at this time, but with the number of girls that we have showing up right now, someone will definitely be able to step up and have an impact for us.”

Orestimba begins its season on Wednesday with a scrimmage at Merced College. The season officially begins for the Lady Warriors next Thursday when Orestimba visits Modesto Christian. Orestimba’s home opener will be Aug. 29 against Waterford.
