Mothers Day certainly took on a whole new meaning this year having a new little grandson in the mix. Just last year, the girls and I spent Mother’s Day afternoon doing a little retail therapy and bought Toni maternity clothes. This year, the four of us: Toni, Natalie and Sam, ventured off to beautiful Monterey and spent the afternoon taking in the sights and sounds of the ocean.
It was one of those perfect days in Monterey with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing. The delicious clam chowder in a bread bowl and the fresh caramel corn topped it all of for what turned into the best Mother’s Day ever. Well, except for when Samuel had his mouth full of oyster crackers and I tried to give him clam chowder soup. Not a very smart thing to do but we did have a physician’s assistant with us. Samuel took it all in stride and continued to shove the crackers in his mouth – he was having a great time!!
As all of you grandmothers know, having grandchildren is a wonderful and life-changing experience but spending the day with your girls just can’t be beat!!
Taking the quick trip to Monterey reminds me that we are so lucky to live on the West Side because we are within two hour driving time to some of the most beautiful places in the California: San Francisco, Monterey and Yosemite. What else could we ask for?

For all those who think that you don’t have to vote on the recall effort against State Senator Jeff Denham – think again. The recall is still on the ballot! Senator Perata announced that he was stepping away from the recall effort but he waited until all of the ballots were printed and mailed before he did so.
Some valley democratic organizations say that they will continue with their support of the recall even though the money and the man behind it have moved on.
In my opinion, this recall is a total waste of time and money and nothing more than another political game.
Denham did what he thought was right for his district and what was right for his conscious. He should be applauded, not recalled!
So remember, whether voting by absentee or at your polling location, remember to vote “no” to recall Senator Jeff Denham!!
Written by Robert Oen, on 18-05-2008 05:27 The recall of Senator Denham should go forward. For most us living in the district, Senator Perata has always been a tragic sideshow. We appreciated the money he has spent on the recall, but never believed it was any of his business. The recall of Senator Denham will succeed because it is not about Mr. Perata. Voters within our district should conduct a word search (Denham pay hike, etc.) on the Sacramento Bee website to get a better view of why this recall makes sense. Please take the time to visit the cal-access Internet website to monitor the campaign contributions being made to fight the recall of Senator Denham.
