NEWMAN – A busy summer is in store for the Newman Recreation Department, which is offering activities that range from swim field trips to youth soccer camp.

Following are the scheduled summer activities.

Swim trips

Supervised field trips to the Gustine pool will be offered Wednesdays and Fridays beginning June 4 and continuing through Aug. 8. The city of Newman is providing transportation on the StART bus. Admission is provided by the cities of Newman and Gustine.

Fit Kids

A free fitness and citizenship program will be offered for children ages 5-17, offering a wide variety of physical activities as well as community service projects.

The program meets Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from June 2 through Aug. 8.

Registration is under way. Participants may register at the Newman Youth Center.

Soccer camp

A youth soccer camp will be held July 14-18 at Sherman Park.

Sessions will meet each morning. The camp will be conducted by Newman Recreation Department referees and staff.

The camp is open to boys and girls in grades K-8.

Fee is $30. An additional $10 fee applies for participants from outside the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District. Registration deadline is June 27.

Participants may register at the Newman Youth Center.

Basketball camp

The city rec department will host a basketball camp July 28 through Aug. 1, led by Parks and Recreation Commissioner Chuck Messer and recreation department staff. Sessions will meet each morning.

The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8.

Fee is $30. An additional $10 fee applies for participants from outside the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District. Registration closes June 27.

Youth volleyball camp

A youth volleyball camp will be offered Aug. 4-8, led by Orestimba High graduate and current Merced College student/athlete Nicole Moore.

The camp is open to youngsters in grades 5-12.

Fee is $30. An additional $10 fee applies for participants from outside the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District. Registration deadline is June 27.

Participants may register at the Newman Youth Center.

Families with financial need may qualify for reduced participation fees for recreation programs through an assistance program offered by the city.
