To the editor:
Susan Mattos’ editorial in the Gustine Press-Standard (May 15) says it all about the dirty politics behind the campaign to recall Jeff Denham.
The man starting it all, Senator Perata from the Bay Area, waited until it was safely printed on the ballots before saying he was stepping away from the recall.
Many people I have spoken to think the battle to keep Denham in office is over, and that they no longer have to vote “no” to prevent the recall.
This may be the clever trick of Perata to disarm Denham supporters, for I am sure the recall people all know the ballot will decide Denham’s fate.
Our great state now has a $14 billion deficit due to the budget Perata supported and Denham courageously refused to vote for last year.
He was 100 percent correct to oppose this outrageous, unbalanced budget that now results in funding cuts all over our state.
It is vital that we all vote “no” on the recall.
