To the editor:

The “Kids to the Rescue” program was presented Wednesday, May 14.

Approximately 1,000 K-5 students from Gustine Elementary School, Our Lady of Miracles School and Romero School participated in this program.

The Gustine Police Department Explorers and Gustine High School ROP public safety class were the organizers and promoters of this program.

The upperclassmen are learning civic responsibility. They took the opportunity to make decisions, plan, organize, construct props, secure funding and administer this program. The elementary students had a positive learning experience from a group they look up to and respect.

We would like to thank everybody who supported and contributed to this program, including the Gustine City Council, Precision Inspection, Environmental Management Services, Morningstar Foods, the Gustine Lions Club, Happy Duck Club, Gustine PAL, Highland Labradors, the Gustine Unified School District Maintenance Department, Gustine Rotary Club, Police Chief Devon Stavrowsky and the Gustine Police Department, Westside Welding, Mountain-Valley EMS, G.O.’s Truck Repair, Cheryl Pometta and the Gustine Volunteer Fire Department.

This was the ultimate win-win situation. We are proud of all the students who made this program happen.
