Newman fire report

Personnel from the Newman Volunteer Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District responded to 22 calls from Sept. 24-30, Fire Chief Keith Bowen reported.

Calls included 13 medical aid responses, one hazardous materials incident,three vehicle fires, four public assists and two motor vehicle accidents.

Bowen said the accidents included a Sept. 26 collision involving a transport bus and SUV at River and Hills Ferry roads in which minor injuries were reported, none requiring ambulance transport, and a Sept. 29 accident involving a vehicle into a fence on Villa Manucha Road. In that accident, Bowen said, an occupant was transported by ambulance with injuries described as minor.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are taken at 5 p.m. daily.
