Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Newman station responded to 19 calls for service from Aug. 5-11.
Fire Chief Keith Bowen said calls for service included two structure fires, three public assists, two vegetation fires, eight medical aid calls, three potential structure fires and one motor vehicle collision.
The calls included an Aug. 5 structure fire involving a farm shed in the 27000 block of River Road.
Fire crews were able to limit the damage to a single chicken coop and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby stables which were threatened. Bowen said one occupant sustained injuries while trying to fight the fire but declined treatment. The loss was estimated at $1,000.
A dumpster fire was reported Aug. 9 in the 1000 block of Fresno Street. Crews arrived to find the dumpster fully involved in flames, which were quickly extinguished. No damage estimate was available.
