Gustine Airport fly-in postponed

The city of Gustine has postponed an airport fly-in originally scheduled for Oct. 27.

City Manager Doug Dunford said the city hopes to reschedule the fly-in for late April or early May.

Newman fire report

Personnel from the Newman Volunteer Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Newman station responded to 20 calls for service from Oct. 1-7.

Fire Chief Keith Bowen said calls for service included 15 medical aid responses, one vehicle fire, two public assists and two motor vehicle collisions.

The vehicle fire was reported Oct. 2 in the 1100 block of Merced Street. Officers arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. The fire was contained to the vehicle.

One of the two accident calls involved a two-vehicle collision Oct. 5 at Highway 33 and J.T. Crow Road, Bowen reported. He said both occupants were complaining of minor injuries and were transported by ground ambulance.

Local personnel were also dispatched to an Oct. 6 accident on Interstate 5 near Fink Road but were canceled en route.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures and rainfall for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are taken at 5 p.m. daily.
