Airport Commission vacancies

The city of Gustine is seeking applicants to its Airport Commission.

The five-member panel, which is an advisory board to the Gustine City Council, currently has three vacancies, city officials said.

Applications are available at Gustine City Hall or online at the city of Gustine website.

Applications will be accepted until the vacancies are filled.

Newman fire

Personnel from the Newman Volunteer Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District responded to a total of 23 calls from Aug. 20-26.

Fire Chief Keith Bowen said calls included 17 medical aid responses, four motor vehicle collisions, one fire alarm and one public assist.

Bowen said the accident calls included an Aug. 20 collision at Kern and Highway 33 which resulted in minor injury; an Aug. 20 accident at Hills Ferry and Stuhr with minor injuries; a two-vehicle accident on Aug. 24 at Highway 33 south of Stuhr which resulted in the transport of one patient to a local emergency room with injuries described as minor; and an Aug. 26 accident on Interstate 5 at Fink Road which resulted in moderate injuries to one patient, who was transported for treatment.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are taken at 5 p.m. daily.
