New contract for NCLUSD superintendent

Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District Superintendent Randy Fillpot was recently awarded a new contract by the board.

The agreement, which is essentially a one-year extension of the previous pact, keeps Fillpot under contract through the 2021-22 school year.

A 3 percent pay increase effective July 1 boosts Fillpot’s annual salary to $214,752. He also will receive a $10,737 longevity incentive which took effect this year, as well as an $1,100 Masters Degree stipend.

Fillpot does not receive district-paid benefits.

During his five years as the district superintendent, Fillpot said, he has worked to provide stable, consistent leadership.

While much work remains to be done, he said, local schools have in that time seen improvement in student achievement, lower chronic absenteeism, the addition of more career pathways, a higher percentage of students completing courses required for admission to the UC/CSU systems and other gains.

“We have continued on a path of improvements,” Fillpot stated.

Measure A levy kept at maximum

The special tax which helps support West Side Community Ambulance will stay at the maximum levels authorized by voters when they approved Measure A in 1984.

The board of directors of West Side Community Healthcare District, which operates the ambulance, voted 3-0 last week to keep the Measure A assessment at its maximum rate.

The annual levy is $40 per residential unit, $95 per commercial parcel, $250 per industrial parcel and 10 cents an acre for ag land.

The special assessment generates about $375,000 a year for the emergency medical services provider. Those revenues, officials say, are critical to offset operational losses incurred by the ambulance service each year.
