Newman fire report
Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Newman station responded to 25 calls for service from July 8-14.
Fire Chief Keith Bowen reported the responses included two working structure fires, 13 medical aid calls, two public assists, two potential structure fires, three vegetation fires and three categorized as other.
Both structure fires involved mutual aid responses to assist firefighters in Patterson.
Local firefighters also responded to potential structure fires July 11 in the 1600 block of Great Basin Drive and the 1100 block of P Street. Each involved an accidental oven fire and resulted in damage of less than $100, Bowen reported.
Firefighters responded to a July 9 vegetation fire in the 700 block of Stuhr Road which involved rows of mulch and a large wood pile burning. Additional resources helped separate and extinguish the piles. No structures were threatened.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are recorded at 5 p.m. daily.
