NEWMAN - A 43-year-old Newman man was shot early Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, outside a home in the 300 block of Northampton Way, police reported.
Lt. Brett Short said Tuesday afternoon that the victim was shot multiple times at close range but had been treated at a regional hospital and was expected to survive.
Short said the shooting, which was reported at approximately 4:30 a.m., occurred as the victim was getting into his pickup truck at his residence.
“I do not have a motive at this time,” Short told Mattos Newspapers. “It does not seem to be just a random act of violence, but we do not know that 100 percent.”
Short said the victim was able to speak with officers before being transported by air ambulance to a hospital.
He said the suspect was described only as a Hispanic male adult, 5-8 in height and approximately 200 pounds who was wearing dark clothing.
Short said investigators were still working to piece together details around the shooting, and were looking for potential witnesses to the incident or any unusual activity in the neighborhood.
Authorities ask anyone with information regarding the case to contact Officer Marcus Freeman at 862-2902 or call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Those coming forward with information can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward, according to a Newman Police Department Facebook post.
