A suspect in a carjacking in Milpitas was arrested in Gustine after a citizen detained him for suspected driving under the influence.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Officers Gonzales and Officer Erickson were dispatched to Jensen Road involving a suspicious vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located the black sedan, with two men standing outside the vehicle. Officers later learned that one of the men was detaining the other based on reckless driving, as well as possibly driving under the influence.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen after a carjacking in Milpitas.

Officers immediately detained the driver of the vehicle with the assistance of Officers Perez and K9 Officer Roseen.

The suspect provided officers with several false names until officers discovered documents in the vehicle that confirmed the suspect’s true identity as Edgar Figuroa. Officers confirmed that Figuroa was the suspect involved in the carjacking and notified the Milpitas Police Department.

Figuroa was also suspected of DUI and was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to the police department.

Figuroa was later booked at Merced County Jail and Milpitas Police Department responded to the jail to take custody of Figuroa.
