Newman fire report

Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District’s Newman station responded to 17 calls for service from Sept. 3-8.

Fire Chief Keith Bowen said calls for service included 10 medical aid responses, one motor vehicle collision, three vehicle fires, one alarm and two public assists.

The motor vehicle collision occurred Sept. 3 at about 2 p.m. on Eastin Road near Shiells, reported Bowen, and involved two vehicles with major damage, including an overturned big rig. Two occupants complained of minor injuries but neither was transported for treatment, Bowen reported. The accident left the roadway covered in almonds, Bowen said. One lane was closed for about two hours as crews cleaned up the almonds, he reported.

On Sept. 4, crews responded to the report of a vehicle fire on River Road near Azevedo. On arrival, crews located a fully-involved vehicle that was over the side of an irrigation canal. No injuries were reported.

On Sept. 7, Newman personnel were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Interstate 5 south of Stuhr Road. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle fully involved in the center median. No injuries were reported.
