Minor injuries in accident
A two-vehicle accident early Saturday morning, Sept. 19, at Highway 33 and Bambauer Road resulted in minor injuries to one of the two drivers, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, the accident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. when a 2010 Honda driven northbound by Jesus Gutierrez, 39, of Newman, rear-ended a northbound big rig driven by Jose Vasquez, 69, of Turlock.
The CHP said Gutierrez was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center, Modesto, with minor injuries.
Newman, Gustine case counts
Five additional COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Newman last week, while the Gustine community’s case count climbed by eight.
As of Monday, Newman had 324 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, up from 319 a week earlier. Gustine’s case count stood at 234, up from 226. The Gustine community case count includes all who listed a Gustine address and is not limited to cases within the city proper.
The counts reflect total case numbers, not cases which are currently active.
Newman Fire report
Personnel from the Newman Fire Department and West Stanislaus Fire Protection District’s Newman station responded to 26 calls for service from Sept. 11-17.
Fire Chief Keith Bowen said the calls included three public assists, 19 medical aid responses, one alarm, one fire out and two motor vehicle accidents.

Newman resident Marge Carvalho, an observer for the National Weather Service, reported the following high/low temperatures for the past week. Readings for the previous 24-hour period are taken at 5 p.m. daily.
